McDONOUGH COUNTY — The West Prairie CUSD 103 Board of Education hired Guy Gradert as the new superintendent replacing Carol Kilver, who was hired as the superintendent of the Pikeland CUSD 10 in Pittsfield, Illinois.

According to West Prairie school board president Lee Moore, Gradert has similar experience as superintendent that West Prairie is going through with both school construction and district reconfiguration. He also said that the board’s ideas will transition well from Kilver to Gradert.

“The transition from Kilver to Gradert started after our April meeting when we as a board offered to extend a contract to Gradert,” Moore said. “They are in dialogue with each other and Gradert and I have conversations with each other occasionally about district matters.”

According to Iroquois County’s Times-Republic, Gradert previously served as superintendent in Iroquois County CUSD 9 in Watseka and in Ridgeview CUSD 19 in Ridgeview. He also served in Prophetstown as both teacher and high school principal and as an elementary school principal in Tampico.

Gradert’s tenure as West Prairie superintendent will start on July 1.
